Oops, there was at least one significant typo in what I just posted:

I meant:

I personally think that there are reasonable XML idioms (probably close to 
the SOAP subset, I.e. no PIs, no DTDs, therefore no entities) that are 
simple enough for many purposes,

I think I missed one or two other typos, but they're reasonably obvious, 
so listing them here is probably more painful than letting them go.
