Facilitating Emergency Response at the OASIS Emergency Interoperability Summit 2009

Program announced – registration is open…

PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

OASIS is please to host the “Emergency Interoperability (EI) Summit” in Baltimore, MD, USA, 29 September-1 October, 2009. The Summit is part of 2009 National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) National Training Event. During the Summit, industry experts will demonstrate that there is much to be gained from interoperable software solutions, not only in terms of cost reduction and operational effectiveness for the Emergency Management (EM) community, but also in terms of marketability and access to a broader market for software tool developers.

OASIS EM standards play a key role in the coherent framework for EM data interoperability. The OASIS EI Summit will demonstrate the value of these interoperable solutions to participants from the worldwide EM community--industry, institutions and government agencies.

Sessions at the OASIS EI Summit will cover critical emergency management standards including:

·         Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), the open standard for alerting and warning messages in any medium. The wide variety of CAP implementations, Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), work to-date on CAP 1.2 and innovative uses of CAP will also be addressed.

·         Emergency Digital Exchange Language (EDXL),  the "umbrella" for a number of emergency data message types including resource queries and requests, situation status and forecasts, financial and personnel data, message routing instructions and the like.  Presentations will detail the family of EDXL open standards and specifications including:  Distribution Element (EDXL-DE), Resource Messaging (EDXL-RM), and Hospital Availability Exchange (EDXL-HAVE). A preview of the Situation Reporting (EDXL-SitRep) specification currently under development will also be featured.

OASIS EI Summit Roundtables will foster open dialogues on the roadmap of emergency data standards, as well as coordinated efforts between OASIS, NIEM, and other organizations.  Attendees of the Summit will gain a clearer understanding of the interoperable solutions being implemented today, the value of mutually supportive standards for information sharing, and insights into how this information ecosystem can benefit us all.

Come witness real-world interoperability demonstrations and listen to the experts on what this all actually means to the EM community.
