I've decided to go for the <org.w3c.svg.svg> format.
The plan is to put a C++ microXML parser that supports the convention on
github. It's low priority for me (I'll probably implement it on various
train journeys), but hopefully it will be mostly there for when I have a
need for it.

Hi Michael,
When you've mentioned your namespaces by convention you've given examples
of both <org.w3c.svg> or <org.w3c.svg.svg> as top level element names. I
wondered if you had ever thought long enough about it to decide which
option you prefer? (If so which?!)
To me <org.w3c.svg> seems prettier, but <org.w3c.svg.svg> more naturally
embraces org.w3c.svg.rectangle.
Thanks,
Pete Cordell
