There is also a free GUI application -- SourceTree -- also by
Atlassian -- with the exception of some UI issues that can make you
crazy until you realize how to fix/avoid them, it isn't that bad.

You will need a merge tool (editor) to resolve merge conflicts -- for
a one person projects these happen rarely, if at all. A commercial one
is BeyondCompare. A free one is KDiff3.

I use all of these:

  Bitbucket

  SourceTree

  git command line

  KDiff3
