I have a bunch of XML Schema documents. I need a complete list of elements that are declared to be of type IDREF.

Is there a tool that will search through the XML Schema documents and report all the elements of type IDREF?

I would have tried to do this, using one of following ways,
1) Use XSLT
2) Use the Xerces API. For example, http://xerces.apache.org/xerces2-j/javadocs/xs/org/apache/xerces/xs/XSElementDeclaration.html#getTypeDefinition(). This is just from top of my head.
