We had a 7.0 in Southern California in the wee hours of the morning. That's
more powerful than the Loma Prieta quake in the Bay Area 10 years ago, but
damage was minimal because it was centered in the desert outside of Los
Angeles. One train was derailed, but there was no loss of life -- certainly
nothing like the commuter trains colliding in London last week.
Today's quake was felt as far east as Las Vegas, where people in high-rise
hotels got dressed and exited their rooms for a while.
