I've been seeing the acronym WXS to describe XML Schema for a long time on
this mailing list, and I have no idea where it came from. It's likely to
confuse people since the acronym is never used on the W3C site, and it
simply isn't the name of a schema language.

Is there a reason for not calling this language W3C XML Schema or XSDL, the
official name and acronym for the language respectively?

Jonathan,

I tend to use XSD as the acronym for W3C XML Schema.

I think that one reason many people avoid the use of "XML Schema" (upper case initial "S") in that it is too easily confused with "XML schema" (lower case initial "s").

I guess that at least some users also concluded that for W3C to, for want of a better term, appropriate a generic term for an organisationally proprietary specification smacked of arrogance. ... You did ask. :)

By the way, where is it indicated that XSDL is the official acronym for W3C XML Schema?

Thanks.
