Sudip,
XML enables structured information so it can be thought of as data. When
data is structured, one can use fixed structures for communication and
then XML is a protocol.
Depending on what you believe XML is i.e. data (metadata) or
communication protocol, the answers to your questions differ.
On persistence... there is more metadata than data. The data persistence
models do not apply well to meta-data persistence models. XML is drive
the use of meta-data information systems. You may want to discuss that
as well.
The future of XML is not in data but metadata.
