The two major document formats used by the current generation of office 
suite programs both are compound document formats, and both are 
multiple-namespace formats (which is a different thing than a compound 
document,)  

At some time, when the tipping point is reached with enough installed 
systems that can produce and use and consume the formats. it will stop 
being prudent to avoid them.  We just need to make sure the standards 
are good enough by the time they are needed.
