Terminology: data interchange format or data exchange format?

Hi Folks,

Which is proper terminology:

The XML data interchange format is described
 	in http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/

The XML data exchange format is described
 	in http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/

I searched the XML specification and it does not use the term "interchange" nor "exchange".

Apparently the JSON folks prefer the term interchange. The title of the ECMA JSON specification [1] is:

	The JSON Data Interchange Format

/Roger
