Alexander,
XML Security Suite (XSS) is an implementation of XML Signature. As it is
warranted, XSS canonicalizes an XML document before signing it. XSS's
javadocs tell the story about what's going on, but you don't get source with
the XSS download. The current release of XSS uses a less recent
canonicalization method (2000-01-19). Canonical XML now comes under the
auspices of XML Signature WG (used to be under XML Core WG). That's the
closest I can come to helping you.
