I am not in the same league as many who contribute to this list, but
perhaps that actually qualifies me to respond to this particular
question.

The only "content-management system" some of us know besides XML is
HTML. When people claim that XML offers "separation of content from
presentation" they mean relative to HTML; alternatives such as SGML
aren't in our limited universe!
