XQuery working group's subtyping is based on

this along with a previous report on explicit vs implicit subtyping, along
with marking of regular expressions -- is what is used by the XQuery core
group for subtyping. At least this is what I heard first hand -- this is
not based on faith. I also have seen the XML -> relational implementation
and looked at exactly how they do the translation -- the inner details.

even I am out of this debate :) However I do wish Microsoft and Oracle
would also develop validators for RELAX NG.
