The word diff scares me.
One obvious extension for XPattern is subsitutions. But it
implies streaming the file, which doesn't seem to make sense in
this case.
(Another reason why slash (/) doesn't make sense for
XPattern, is that you can't use the same notation for
emitting nodes in a subsitution.)
I'm wondering what happend to XUpdate (something I was wondering
quite actively last year) and if XQuery supports an update,
insert, delete syntax. Something like that is more along the
lines of what you need.
