Sorry, I shouldn't have said "if you don't think XML Schema makes sense".
I meant more like "if you are not satisfied with XML Schema".

The reason I asked that is because I thought you are talking about your
open-source project. I thought open-source programmers are less
concerned about what big vendors are doing. That led me to the question.

I'm sure vendors are supporting XML Schema, but that doesn't mean they
are not interested in any others. Indeed I do think they are interested
in other languages.
