Yes, exactly. The main motivation for creating JNVDL was need for
compound document aware validator for Relaxed XHTML validator
(http://www.relaxed.cz). Currently Relaxed uses manually created RELAX
NG schemas for validation of XHTML, XHTML+SVG, XHTML+MathML,
XHTML+SVG+MathML. But this approach doesn't scale very well if you want
to cover all possible combinations of XHTML + SVG, MathML, SMIL,
VoiceXML, RDF,... NVDL can simplify this task significantly.
